HOW TO SUCCESSFULLY MONETIZE YOUTUBE VIDEOS

Earlier this year, Google announced changes to YouTube  monetization, saying though the changes are tough, but they are necessary.
This makes the YouTube Partner Program to be one of the best if not the best, which in turn allows genuine publishers to make more money through google AdSense advertising. Before now, one needed 10,000 total views to be able to monetize a YouTube channel. Presently (actually from mid-February this year), channels in addition to the 10,000 total views, need to have 1,000  or more subscribers and at least 4,000 hours of view time in the previous year.

Those are the requirements before one can monetize YouTube videos. This has been a huge blow for starters, but I think it’s worth it on the long run. Once you are sure you have a great content to offer to the public, this should not discourage you, as it is achievable.
These rules have to be set to avoid fly-by-night channels, giving advertisers the assurance that their ads will meet their targeted audience or so I think.
Summarily, the four major prerequisite for YouTube Monetization are:
1.   10,000 (or more) total views
2.   1,000  (or more) subscribers
3.   4,000 (or more) hours of annual view time.
4.   Exclusive contents or contents not copyright protected.
Like I mentioned above, those are the four major prerequisite. There are other rules that publishers have to abide by, but I believe once the above listed are not violated, you are on the right track.
You can check YouTube policy page to be sure you’re abiding by the right practices.
